Sketches: From the Mountains

Most of these pieces are in pen & ink on watercolour paper and were created in the comfort of home from field sketches and/or photos. It isn't as romantic an image as the artist-at-his-easel in the wilds, but ink freezes in the cold and runs in the rain and life is busy. Field sketches are largely in whatever pencil I had to hand, while my forays into colour rely on watercolours and natural tints, like tea. Whatever the medium, the creation of each piece took me somewhere for a while, be that a particular memory or an meditation on the sheer patient inevitability of geology and of life.
